A Hoodie & Hat Day

A Hoodie & Hat Day

March 31, 2026

The reflection in the door of the local coffee shop tells the story.

Today is a casual day.

Baseball cap, brand new, with the logo of a golf club I belong to down south. A hoodie with a golf shirt underneath, same logo. Stretchy jeans that my bride picked out for me. Low cut socks and white On Clouds.

Now for those of you ready to judge, go ahead. That is what it is.

It is just before 8 am on a beautiful sunny morning in upstate New York, and the tone of the day was set the minute I got dressed.

It is funny, I am sure a lot of people are very deliberate about what they wear. For me, it is usually a game time decision, but that decision carries more weight than we give it credit for. It sets the tone.

This morning was no different. I got out of the shower, glanced at the calendar, and made a quick call. Who am I seeing, what kind of day is this, how do I want to show up?

You can laugh, but it is real.

Some days call for a little more polish. Some days do not. Today is one of those in between days. Presentable, but comfortable. Focused, but relaxed.

We are getting a good portion of the team together for a planning session, looking ahead into 2026 and 2027. Talking through what is working, what needs to change, and how we keep getting better. There is change coming, like there always is. Some of it is just part of running a business. Some of it involves people and roles. All of it is positive. All of it is part of growth.

And it gave me the green light for the hoodie.

Truth is, if I had my way most days, this would be it. Hoodie, jeans or shorts, simple, comfortable, ready to go. That is when I feel most like myself.

The temperature has not quite caught up yet here in central New York, but the sky has. Bright blue, no clouds, one of those mornings that just feels different. After a long stretch of gray, it stands out.

So why spend this much time talking about what I am wearing?

Because it is not really about the outfit.

It is about the decision.

Somewhere between checking the calendar and walking out the door, I decided what kind of day this was going to be. The hoodie just followed that decision.

That does not mean everything will go perfectly. Something will probably pop up, it always does. But the starting point matters. The tone matters.

And today started off as a good day.

The calendar laid itself out for a hoodie and hat day, and hoodie and hat days are good days. They are fun days.

As we go through life, especially early on, we are chasing the next thing. The next goal, the next milestone, the next win. We grind, we push, we try to get somewhere. And somewhere along the way, if we are paying attention, we start to realize that a lot of the joy we are looking for is not in the big moments.

It is in the small ones.

Today, the small thing was a hoodie and a hat.

So here is my encouragement. Find your version of that. Find your hoodie and your hat. Find the small thing that sets the tone for your day, and lean into it.

Put it on, step outside, and enjoy the sunshine.
